WoW Forever

Warrior guide

Build Rage in combat and spend it on attacks or defence. Weapons, shields and pull size make a large difference to the experience.

WoW Forever beta · Updated 3 October 2026

QUICK START

A shield-based Protection route is a practical starting option for solo play and early tanking. Keep a useful weapon, fight manageable enemies and avoid spending Rage on an enemy already about to die.

ROLE

Melee damage · Tank

RESOURCE

Rage

01

Rage is earned and spent

Look at what the current fight needs before spending Rage. Damage, interruption, control and survival compete for the same resource. Keeping an emergency button available is part of efficient play.

A fresh weapon type may need skill training before it performs well. Judge it after using it on suitable enemies, rather than taking it straight into the hardest quest in your log.

02

Three talent paths

You create a Warrior first, then develop a talent path as you level. Read the choices below as playstyles: early points and a fully developed build are different stages of the same character.

Arms

Develop strong weapon attacks, bleeds and two-handed play. Talents support attacks such as Overpower and later abilities such as Mortal Strike. A useful weapon is central to the route.

Fury

Emphasise attack frequency, critical strikes and sustained aggression. Cruelty offers early critical chance, while deeper talents add the interactions that define a developed Fury build.

Protection

Build around a shield, defensive tools and controlled threat. Shield Specialization and Master of Defense support Rage generation; Revenge and later Shield Slam are part of the damage toolkit too.

Use the planner to read the current talents and check row requirements. Legacy’s Talented bonus adds points separately; leave its rank at zero unless your character has earned the bonus.

+ Plan your talent points

03

Build momentum safely

Choose

Start with an enemy you can handle, with a clear path away from nearby packs.

Engage

Use a suitable stance and your learned opening tools.

React

Use Revenge or Overpower when available for your setup. Reserve Rage for a needed defensive or control action.

Carry on

Do not spend a large amount on the last sliver of health. Recover or move to the next safe target according to your health and the situation.

Bigger pulls are not automatically better. Extra enemies can generate opportunities, but they also increase incoming damage and the cost of mistakes.

Read more: Warrior pull and Rage advice.

For a shield route, build a repeatable Revenge cycle: engage, maintain enough Rage, use Shield Block when useful, and take the Revenge opportunity after a defensive result. Keep the reactive attack where you can notice it.

Do not queue Heroic Strike just because you have Rage. It replaces a swing that would otherwise contribute Rage and competes with Revenge, interrupts and defensive tools. Banking Rage near the end of a kill can improve the next opening.

A weapon change also means checking weapon skill. Train unfamiliar skills on safe enemies before a dungeon; misses against dangerous targets are a poor time to discover that the new weapon is barely trained.

Protection, Arms and Fury do not unlock the same attacks at the same level. A Sweeping Strikes route and a Vanguard route require different points. Test a new setup across several pulls, including the food and bandages afterwards.

Forever beta · Client data

Ordinary single-weapon swings only. Abilities, offhand attacks and stance or talent modifiers require separate calculations.

Level 30: class baseline, before buffs and talents.

Strength+7Attribute increase
Melee Attack Power+142 AP per Strength
AP contribution+1Nominal weapon DPS · AP ÷ 14
Per ordinary swing+3.5At 3.5 seconds, before mitigation

The AP contribution is added to the weapon's base DPS. It is not total combat DPS. Listed weapon speed is used; haste, misses, crits, armor, procs and special attacks are excluded.

“pp” means percentage points: +1 pp takes 5% to 6%, before other modifiers. Crit contributions are not total crit chances.

Stamina
The first 20 effective points add 1 health each. Above 20, the client uses your character’s current health-per-point rate; health buffs and talents can change the gain.

Interactive figures use class baseline: race, buffs, talents, form overrides and server-side changes are not applied. The client data describes configured conversions; it is not a combat-log measurement or a gear ranking.

  • Attack Power: added Strength × the class's AP-per-Strength field. Agility's melee and ranged AP fields are kept separate.
  • Crit: added attribute × its exact class-and-level coefficient × 100. No interpolation or Classic fallback is used.
  • Ordinary swing contribution: added AP ÷ 14 × listed weapon speed. The divisor and +2 armor per Agility come from the matching client tooltip code.
  • Configured mana contribution at effective Intellect I: min(I, 20) + 15 × max(I − 20, 0). An increase across the breakpoint is the difference between the old and new totals.
  • Stamina's first-20 breakpoint is present in the matching constants file. The exact above-20 Forever rate has not been verified; the UI obtains it from the game's runtime API.

Weapon upgrades deserve attention, whether you use a two-hander or a one-handed weapon and shield. Compare the setup as a whole, not just a single item’s rarity.

Strength and other useful attack stats support damage; Stamina, armour and defensive stats can make solo fights or tanking more forgiving. Keep a shield available if you intend to tank.

Read more: Protection levelling.

RFC · weapon

Cursed Felblade from Taragaman is a one-handed sword comparison for a shield route. A two-handed reward serves a different setup, so inspect the weapon type before choosing.

Hall of Thanes · tank set

Golemguard Chest and Treads of the Protector Golem from Plunder are mail-armour comparisons. Keep an appropriate shield rather than replacing the whole setup for one damage item.

Alliance · quest

Old Ironforge Incursion offers Ironforge Greathammer for a two-handed route. It is an alternative weapon plan, not a replacement for shield-required attacks.

05

A role with a clear responsibility

As tank, establish control, watch the healer’s mana and move at a pace the group can sustain. As damage, stay on the tank’s target and use your learned interrupt when a dangerous cast begins.

Tell a new group if you are learning the dungeon. A clear target marker and a short pause before an unfamiliar pull can prevent more lost time than a faster opening attack saves.

06

Ability and build milestones

Level 4

Charge. Start with range and a clear path. It gives a useful opening; do not charge through an uncleared pack.

Level 10

Defensive Stance. Follow the stance unlock before your first tanking assignment. Keep a shield and the right stance accessible.

Level 14

Revenge. A major shield-route attack after a block, dodge or parry. Watch the activation rather than wasting Rage on filler.

Level 14

Tactical Mastery. Baseline Forever training. Old builds that budget talent points for Classic Tactical Mastery do not describe this version.

Level 16

Shield Block. Creates block opportunities for the Revenge cycle. Plan Rage for defence and damage instead of dumping it all into Heroic Strike.

Level 20

Master of Defense. A Protection talent milestone. Read the current beta tooltip before importing a Classic shield build.

Level 25

Vanguard. A deeper Protection talent at its earliest normal unlock. Off-tree points move the unlock later.

Level 30

Sweeping Strikes. An Arms alternative that needs its own point investment. It is not automatically available on the Protection route.

Level 36

Whirlwind. A later area-damage unlock. Check the current Forever stance and weapon requirements rather than importing an old rotation.

These are toolkit changes, not measured percentage-DPS claims. Talent unlocks assume enough points in the required tree; Legacy bonuses and off-tree points can change when a build reaches them.
