Profession guide

Alchemy

Choose the consumable you need, count its materials, and keep crafting access separate from who can use it.

WoW Forever betaClient 1.60.1.70205Checked 2026-10-04

The current beta cap is level 30, announced 1 October 2026. Advice here covers early beta planning; later level 60 routes remain separate. Client descriptions can lag live changes.

Alchemy supplies repeatable buffs and mana recovery. Start with a problem: surviving physical hits, improving spell damage, extending a mana pool, or carrying a recovery potion. A profession skill total is less useful than a small stock you will actually use. For an exact-level character, record the required character level and acquisition route before buying a large batch.

Buy a benefit, not just a skill point

For a fresh character, compare the next training bill with the materials you would consume. Make a small batch first, then decide whether the buff solves a problem often enough to justify replenishing it. A potion reserved for a difficult pull serves a different purpose from an elixir used throughout a dungeon.

For a supplied character, buying a finished consumable may be simpler than learning its recipe. The early items listed here do not require the consumer to be an Alchemist in the reviewed native fields. That makes crafting your own supply a choice about cost and access, rather than an automatic requirement.

In a Reddit discussion, Rhordrick asks whether early Alchemy feels rewarding beside professions that produce a lasting gear upgrade. Use that distinction when choosing: count repeated uses across your next session, then compare their total cost with the alternative item you would buy.

Required level means character level in this table. It is separate from Alchemy skill and from item level. Pick the effect that matches your attacks or resource needs, rather than treating every elixir as a generic damage upgrade.

Current beta item descriptions checked 4 October 2026; native level fields matched to build 70205.

Read the unit before comparing upgrades

Minor Arcane Elixir advertises spell damage, not healing. Its “up to” wording is not a promise of five additional damage on every cast. Elixir of Minor Force advertises physical damage; it is not labelled one extra weapon DPS, and it should not be converted into Attack Power without an ability-specific model. Likewise, 50 armor is not a fixed percentage reduction against every enemy.

Elixir of Wisdom offers a useful conditional example. In the matching client’s mana display model, the first 20 effective Intellect contribute one mana each; points above 20 contribute 15 each. If your starting effective Intellect is at least 20 and the full +6 applies, the configured pool contribution rises by 90 mana. Starting at 18 instead gives 62: two points contribute one each and four contribute 15 each.

That calculation is a pool comparison, not a mana refill or a prediction of damage. Read the before-and-after character values, especially when another buff might replace the elixir.

Count materials for the batch you want

The listed inputs below are matched to current native recipes. Minor Mana Potion uses Peacebloom alongside Mageroyal in Forever; an old Classic shopping list that substitutes Silverleaf will not match this recipe.

For ten recipe executions of each of the first, second and fourth rows, budget 20 Peacebloom, 10 Silverleaf, 10 Mageroyal and 30 Empty Vial. This is material arithmetic for 30 executions, not a promise of 30 skill points or independently verified output quantity. Recheck the crafting window before purchasing the whole batch.

Recipe inputs establish materials, not trainer access, crafting yield or skill-up probability.
TargetListed inputs per recipe execution
Minor Arcane Elixir1 Peacebloom + 1 Empty Vial
Elixir of Minor Force1 Silverleaf + 1 Empty Vial
Elixir of Minor Defense1 Silverleaf + 1 Peacebloom + 1 Empty Vial
Minor Mana Potion1 Mageroyal + 1 Peacebloom + 1 Empty Vial
Elixir of Wisdom1 Mageroyal + 2 Briarthorn + 1 Empty Vial

Healing potions belong in a separate plan

Do not start Forever Alchemy by blindly following Classic’s Minor Healing Potion step. The current crafting spell for that item is associated with First Aid and lists 1 Empty Vial, 1 Mild Spices and 1 Peacebloom. A retained older Alchemy association does not establish the current crafting route.

Keep recovery supplies in your character plan even when you choose Alchemy for damage elixirs. Check the current First Aid training offer separately; knowing the recipe’s ingredients does not prove that you can already learn it.

Check training before the skill cap

The current WoW-Professions beta research reports Journeyman Alchemy at skill 50 and character level 10, permitting progression past 75, and Expert at skill 125 and character level 20, permitting progression past 150. These are author-reported trainer gates; confirm the current offer on your character.

Spend for a learned, useful recipe first. If your next recipe or profession rank is unavailable, gathering another bag of its materials does not solve that access problem. The author labels the Artisan section untested, so a projected skill 300 route should remain later planning.

A practical preparation loop

Choose one buff and one recovery target for the next activity. Check the character-level requirement, current recipe access and finished-item price. If you craft, count the exact herb and vial quantities; if you buy, compare the cost of the finished stock. Leave enough room in your budget for the spells you plan to train.

Herbalism can supply these herbs, but gathered materials still have a sale value and a time cost. Judge the pairing against your actual route. After the session, record how many consumables you used and which buff was active; that makes the next purchase more precise than copying a fixed shopping list.

Recipe coverage and craft-count assumptions

This planner compares the included, priced alternatives in the author's route from skill 1 to 300. It does not search every Alchemy recipe. Individual alternatives can require different planned execution counts, and the entire path is compared when conditional Fire Oil carryover is enabled.

A partial block scales its selected recipe's author-planned count by the requested skill span and rounds up. For example, 15 planned Fire Power executions for 150→165 become 5 for 150→155; the alternative's 22 Lesser Mana executions become 8. These estimates are not measured skill-up probabilities or guaranteed gains.

The author reports two Fire Oils per execution for the 130→150 route. Carryover mode uses that conditional output to supply a later recipe in the same plan. Purchased-input mode gives no earlier-output credit. Other yields and personal stock are not assumed, and surplus receives no sale value.

The 225–300 section is explicitly untested future planning. The final 290–300 option remains conditional: the author's later table lists Major Frenzy Potion while its introduction still describes the last ten points as undecided. Native recipe inputs do not verify current trainer access or the chance of reaching 300.

Materials only: training fees and recipe purchases are excluded from the gold total. Major Frenzy's quoted 240 Merchant's Favor recipe purchase is separate from the optional 1,000 Favor Alchemist-title certification. Neither is an established Artisan-training fee. Plan for 240 Merchant's Favor.
