WoW Forever · Spell damage and support

Shadow Priest

Shadow applies damage over time and uses direct or channelled spells to finish the target. Match the number of casts to the enemy’s remaining life: a fresh full set of periodic effects on a nearly dead enemy can waste mana. Mind Flay adds a channel and a movement-control decision.

Current beta play is capped at level 30. Level 60 reference models and deeper talents are identified as later planning. Client descriptions and server updates can differ.

What this build asks you to do

Vampiric Embrace makes eligible Shadow damage on its affected target support the party. This is conditional recovery, not permission to stop watching health. Spirit Tap has its own eligible-kill and rank conditions. Deeper Shadowform changes the spell choices you can make, so a healing action may require another form decision; the ordinary 31-point milestone is not part of a fresh level 10 character.

  • Periodic pressure can produce damage while you make another decision.
  • Channels, eligible kills and healing restrictions require attention; support healing is not a complete healer role.

Choose the next action

  • Apply Shadow effects only when the target will live long enough to use them. A full periodic setup on a nearly defeated enemy wastes mana and delays recovery.
  • Use learned Mind Blast or Mind Flay when their direct or channelled damage fits the target and your safe casting window. Movement and interruption can change which cast is useful.
  • Vampiric Embrace requires its affected target and eligible Shadow damage. The resulting party recovery is conditional support, not a replacement for watching health.
  • Plan the finishing action around Spirit Tap’s eligible kill condition when you have that talent. A proc is an opportunity to recover, not a reason to pull an unsafe second enemy.
  • Deep Shadowform changes spell access and the support choice. Leave the damage plan when a necessary heal requires it, rather than treating every future spell as simultaneously available.

Damage on the affected target can support the party

Click through an illustrative sequence. Conditional effects require the named spells and talents; this is not a damage, resource, threat or timing simulation.

  • Apply Vampiric Embrace: When learned, apply it to the enemy whose Shadow damage will drive the support effect.
  • Deal eligible Shadow damage: Use an eligible Shadow spell on that target; another target is not the same condition.
  • Party recovery follows: Show the conditional party healing associated with that damage, without assigning a healing amount.
  • Recheck the situation: Choose another cast or direct support based on real health and mana. The periodic effect is not a safety guarantee.

    Understand the upgrade

Spell damage helps the eligible spells; useful output also depends on target lifetime and casting conditions.

Kill-triggered recovery depends on learned ranks and the actual eligible event, not every party kill.

These examples describe the pinned client baseline. Learned talents, buffs, attack type and actual encounter change the useful result; they are not universal stat weights. Spirit’s value must be compared through the full and casting regeneration your character reports, rather than a fixed Spirit-to-MP5 rule.

    Understand the upgrade
    Comparison Meaning
+10 Intellect +150 mana if existing effective Intellect is at least 20, before further modifiers; about +0.372 percentage points of spell crit at level 30.
    +7 Intellect from 19 The first-20 breakpoint gives +91 mana, not +105.
Spell/healing power Compare the affected spell or heal and learned rank; the coefficient and useful outcome differ.

    Questing and group play

A wand can finish an enemy while conserving mana, and the eligible killing blow matters to a Spirit Tap plan. In groups, avoid loading damage on an uncontrolled enemy and tell the healer when an emergency support action costs your damage stance. Party healing from damage is useful, but it is not a full healer assignment.

    Choose useful equipment

Compare Shadow spell damage with mana, useful crit and the ability to finish a pull safely. Wand damage remains separate after the September spell-power change. A healing item may preserve group flexibility while sacrificing part of the damage package.
