WoW Forever

Priest guide

Combine damage, healing and protection. Learn to keep yourself moving through quests while saving enough mana to help your group.

WoW Forever beta · Updated 3 October 2026

QUICK START

Get a usable wand early and bind its attack. Keep healing and shielding close to your damage keys. You can develop a solo damage route and still prepare to heal an early dungeon.

ROLE

Healer · Ranged damage

RESOURCE

Mana

01

Mana is part of the rotation

The aim in solo play is to finish a fight healthy enough and with enough mana for the next one. Healing yourself after every expensive damage sequence can erase the time saved by that burst.

A wand helps you finish without spending more mana. It is especially useful while your damage spells and talent options are still limited.

For named training milestones, quest upgrades and your first dungeon checklist, read the Priest levelling guide.

02

Three talent paths

You create a Priest first, then develop a talent path as you level. Read the choices below as playstyles: early points and a fully developed build are different stages of the same character.

Discipline

Protection, mana efficiency and a Holy-damage route. Wand Specialization helps an early wand approach; deeper talents such as Penance change the casting toolkit.

Holy

Develop direct healing, healing over time and supporting Holy spells. Pay attention to how quickly a heal lands and how much mana it costs, rather than always choosing the largest heal.

Shadow

Deal Shadow damage with spells and damage over time. Spirit Tap supports recovery after kills; Mind Flay and Shadowform arrive through deeper talent investment.

Use the planner to read the current talents and check row requirements. Legacy’s Talented bonus adds points separately; leave its rank at zero unless your character has earned the bonus.

03

A simple solo sequence

Prepare

Keep your useful buffs active. Use a shield when the incoming damage or cast interruption justifies its cost.

Damage

Open with a trained damage spell and apply Shadow Word: Pain when the target will live long enough.

Finish

Use your wand for the remaining health when it saves a needless cast.

Recover

Heal or drink before the next pull if needed. Leave a safe route if Psychic Scream becomes necessary.

For a Shadow-focused route, add Mind Blast and Mind Flay as your training and talents allow. The wand approach and a more active casting approach can feel different at the same level.

Read more: Shadow-focused levelling.

A crafted Lesser Magic Wand is usable from level 5; Greater Magic Wand from 13 is another early comparison. If wanding is your finishing routine, buying the wand can matter more than an unused spell rank.

Open with the damage you need, apply Shadow Word: Pain to a target that will take its ticks, then let the wand finish. In a Spirit Tap route, the killing blow matters: plan which enemy you finish rather than assuming every group kill triggers your recovery.

Use Power Word: Shield when it prevents dangerous damage or pushback. Shielding every trivial enemy spends mana that the wand route is supposed to save. Keep a proper heal available for damage that gets through.

Penance at the Discipline threshold and Shadowform deeper in Shadow are different routes. A respec suggested by one creator is not a compulsory levelling step; compare its training and respec cost with keeping a route you already understand.

Priest stat conversions

Forever beta · Client data

Strength is shown for ordinary melee attacks. Attack Power does not convert into wand damage, spell damage or healing in this example.

Level 30: class baseline, before buffs and talents.

Intellect+10Attribute increase
Mana gained+150From the existing and added Intellect
Spell crit contribution+0.372 ppAt your selected character level

Mana gains use the existing Intellect input. The first 20 effective points contribute 1 mana each; above 20, each point contributes 15. Crossing 20 uses both rates. More mana is a larger pool, not a faster regeneration rate. “pp” means percentage points: +1 pp takes 5% to 6%, before other modifiers.

Strength+7Attribute increase
Melee Attack Power+71 AP per Strength
AP contribution+0.5Nominal weapon DPS · AP ÷ 14
Per ordinary swing+1.75At 3.5 seconds, before mitigation

The AP contribution is added to the weapon's base DPS. It is not total combat DPS. Listed weapon speed is used; haste, misses, crits, armor, procs and special attacks are excluded.

Mana gained
+150

Uses existing plus added effective Intellect: the first 20 contribute 1 mana per point; above 20, 15 per point. This is neither Spell Power nor mana regeneration.

“pp” means percentage points: +1 pp takes 5% to 6%, before other modifiers. Crit contributions are not total crit chances.

Stamina
The first 20 effective points add 1 health each. Above 20, the client uses your character’s current health-per-point rate; health buffs and talents can change the gain.
Mana per 5 seconds
+5 MP5 gives 60 mana over one minute, assuming a constant effective rate and enough missing mana to receive it.
Spirit
Mana recovery depends on class rules, talents and when you spend mana. See the regeneration mechanics.
Spell Power
Applied by each spell and rank's coefficient. It has no universal damage or healing conversion. Inspect the spell-rank data.

Interactive figures use class baseline: race, buffs, talents, form overrides and server-side changes are not applied. The client data describes configured conversions; it is not a combat-log measurement or a gear ranking.

  • Attack Power: added Strength × the class's AP-per-Strength field. Agility's melee and ranged AP fields are kept separate.
  • Crit: added attribute × its exact class-and-level coefficient × 100. No interpolation or Classic fallback is used.
  • Ordinary swing contribution: added AP ÷ 14 × listed weapon speed. The divisor and +2 armor per Agility come from the matching client tooltip code.
  • Configured mana contribution at effective Intellect I: min(I, 20) + 15 × max(I − 20, 0). An increase across the breakpoint is the difference between the old and new totals.
  • Stamina's first-20 breakpoint is present in the matching constants file. The exact above-20 Forever rate has not been verified; the UI obtains it from the game's runtime API.

Inspect wand rewards, crafted options and affordable purchases. If a wand is doing much of your finishing damage, an upgrade can be noticeable even when your other equipment barely changes.

Keep Intellect, recovery and useful spell stats in mind for your healing set. Do not assume that every damage upgrade helps your mana during a longer healing assignment.

First wand

Lesser Magic Wand at level 5 and Greater Magic Wand at 13 are crafted comparisons. Inspect the price before committing materials to make your own.

RFC · quests

Hidden Enemies offers Staff of Orgrimmar. The Power to Destroy offers Ghastly Trousers; check the Undercity quest before travelling to Orgrimmar.

Hall of Thanes · weapons

Golemheart Stave, Fang of Magmatus, or the Deepblaze quest reward can improve a caster setup. Compare healing needs separately from wand finishing damage.

05

Heal deliberately

Agree that you are the healer before entering. Watch the tank’s health and your mana, and tell the group when you need a pause. Early damage talents do not remove your healing spells, but your gear and pull size still matter.

Try mouseover healing if it suits you: it lets you point at a party frame without repeatedly changing your selected enemy. Start with one healing key and make sure the intended ally receives the heal.

06

Ability and build milestones

Level 4

Shadow Word: Pain. Apply it to enemies that will survive long enough to take its ticks. Skip an unnecessary refresh near the end of a kill.

Level 6

Power Word: Shield. Prevents damage and casting pushback. Use it where that benefit repays the mana, not automatically on every easy pull.

Level 10

Mind Blast. Adds burst. Compare a spell-heavy opening with a wand finish over several kills, including the drinking afterwards.

Level 10

Resurrection. Train before your first healing assignment; a damage talent route still has group utility.

Level 18

Dispel Magic. Remove a harmful magical effect or an enemy magic buff. Check whether the specific effect is dispellable.

Level 20

Mind Flay. Requires Shadow talent investment. Its channel and slow provide another way to control an approaching target.

Level 30

Penance. An optional Discipline talent route. A creator-recommended transition is a choice, not a mandatory paid respec.

Level 40

Shadowform. A deeper Shadow unlock. Review which healing spells require leaving the form before treating it as permanent.

These are toolkit changes, not measured percentage-DPS claims. Talent unlocks assume enough points in the required tree; Legacy bonuses and off-tree points can change when a build reaches them.
