WoW Forever · Melee damage (Energy)
Assassination Rogue
Assassination links Energy spending, Combo Points and poison-oriented choices. Use a builder that matches your weapon setup, then decide what the current target needs from a finisher. Finishing a nearly dead enemy and maintaining a longer-lived damage benefit are different decisions.
Current beta play is capped at level 30. Level 60 reference models and deeper talents are identified as later planning. Client descriptions and server updates can differ.
In this guide
What this build asks you to do
Mutilate attacks with both weapons and has an additional condition against a Poisoned target. Seal Fate attaches extra Combo Points to qualifying builder critical strikes. Later Venom spends points to improve poison damage and application rather than simply dealing one immediate hit. None of those descriptions guarantees that every attack crits or every poison lands; preserve enough Energy to react to an interrupt or escape need.
- Builders, poison conditions and finishers provide linked damage choices.
- Weapon requirements, poison supplies and conditional procs can change what is available.

Choose the next action
- Choose weapons that satisfy the learned builder. Mutilate uses both weapons and its Poisoned-target interaction; a poisoned enemy is a condition to check, not proof every attack applied poison.
- Build points with usable contact while preserving Energy for an interrupt or escape. Being behind the target, having the right weapon and having enough Energy are different requirements.
- Choose a finisher for the target’s remaining life. Spending on a sustained benefit and immediately finishing a nearly defeated enemy answer different questions.
- With Seal Fate learned, an eligible builder crit can add Combo Points. Do not plan every cycle as though that extra point is guaranteed.
- Later Venom changes the poison-oriented spending choice. Use the actual learned description rather than treating every Assassination finisher as one immediate physical hit.

A Poisoned target changes the builder choice
Click through an illustrative sequence. Conditional effects require the named spells and talents; this is not a damage, resource, threat or timing simulation.
- Check the Poisoned condition: In this example the target is already Poisoned; applying poison is not guaranteed by every attack.
- Build with Mutilate: When learned and usable with your weapons, the builder adds Combo Points and uses its Poisoned-target interaction.
- Choose the finisher: Choose a learned finisher for this target; the illustrated points are a chosen example, not a crit prediction.
- Keep Energy for control: A useful interrupt or escape can matter more than immediately rebuilding every point.

Build the toolkit
Keep weapon skills, useful builder/finisher ranks and poison supplies current. Learn the poison introduction rather than assuming a talent makes supplies unnecessary. Mutilate, Seal Fate and Venom have separate point requirements; the future preset is not an early solo allocation.

Understand the upgrade
Check the actual main-hand/off-hand requirements and ability rules instead of judging only a combined character-sheet DPS value.
Baseline +10 Agility gives a Rogue +10 melee AP and +20 Armor; level-dependent crit and poison interactions are separate.
These examples isolate attribute relationships. They are not a prediction of full ability DPS, threat, pet damage or survivability.
| Comparison | Meaning |
|---|---|
| +10 Agility | +10 baseline melee AP and +20 ranged AP; about +0.769 percentage points of weapon crit at level 30, before talents. |
| Weapon context | Main-hand, off-hand and positional builder choices must be compared separately. |
| Survival or reserve | A damage stat does not replace the health and resource reserve needed to finish the pull. |

Questing and group play
For solo play, use controlled single targets and retain an escape option when an opener fails. In a party, wait for safe contact and use interrupts; do not break controlled targets merely to maintain a damage cycle. The enemy’s remaining life determines whether a bleed or longer benefit repays the points invested.

Choose useful equipment
Compare the actual paired weapons, poison support and Agility with enough health for the pull. A dagger-dependent builder cannot use a non-dagger upgrade simply because its listed damage is higher. Strength and Agility have different crit relationships, and an off-hand contribution is not the same as a main-hand hit.
