WoW Forever · Experimental setup
Holy / Protection Paladin
Holy / Protection explores a shield tank supported by a Holy Shock and Consecration damage package. Keep the tanking effects active, then decide whether a Holy cast or an emergency heal is the useful next action. Damage potential is only one part of the job.
Current beta play is capped at level 30. Level 60 reference models and deeper talents are identified as later planning. Client descriptions and server updates can differ.
In this guide
What this build asks you to do
MythicSim’s future reference uses 30 Holy and 21 Protection points. That buys a different package from deep Protection: the allocation cannot include the 31-point Holy Shield talent. Holy Shock can change targets to heal, but doing so spends time and mana that could have gone to damage or control. Judge the exchange against the actual pull; the model ranks damage, not healing, threat or survival.
- Holy casts give the shield user a distinct damage and support choice.
- Thirty Holy points postpone deep Protection; the reference does not include Holy Shield.

Choose the next action
- Start by meeting the tanking job: a suitable shield, learned tanking effects and a controlled pull. The Holy package is an addition to that job, not permission to ignore a loose enemy.
- Choose a useful Consecration position, then add an offensive Holy Shock when the tanking situation and mana reserve allow it.
- If an ally needs recovery, retarget a learned heal or Holy Shock instead of following the damage board blindly. Time spent healing changes the damage sequence and its cost.
- Keep tanking recovery events separate from Holy critical-heal interactions. A consumed absorb, a block and an eligible heal crit are three different triggers.
- Read the point budget before promising a defensive cooldown. The 30 Holy / 21 Protection reference cannot contain the 31-point Holy Shield talent.

Holy damage package while holding a shield
Click through an illustrative sequence. Conditional effects require the named spells and talents; this is not a damage, resource, threat or timing simulation.
- Keep the tanking setup: Begin with your learned tanking effects and shield; this does not prove every enemy is controlled.
- Place Consecration: Choose a position that gives the learned ground spell useful targets.
- Choose offensive Holy Shock: Target an enemy for the Holy damage branch while retaining the tanking setup.
- Switch to support if needed: An ally in trouble can justify a healing cast instead; a damage model does not score that choice.

Build the toolkit
Treat the complete 30/21/0 reference as future level 60 planning. Current level 30 points can explore parts of Holy or Protection, but not the complete hybrid. Holy Shock’s damage and healing branches still require a deliberate target.
| Level | Decision or milestone | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Start with the learned tanking toolkit and a controlled group. | Current beta |
| 60 | The complete mixed-tree reference is future planning. | Later planning |

Understand the upgrade
Compare useful damage with actual shield, health and mana needs; the model does not rank safety.
Only learned talents apply. A mixed build can lose a deep tanking interaction while gaining a damage one.
These examples describe the pinned client baseline. Learned talents, buffs, attack type and actual encounter change the useful result; they are not universal stat weights. Spirit’s value must be compared through the full and casting regeneration your character reports, rather than a fixed Spirit-to-MP5 rule.
| Comparison | Meaning |
|---|---|
| +10 Intellect | +150 mana if existing effective Intellect is at least 20, before further modifiers; about +0.313 percentage points of spell crit at level 30. |
| +7 Intellect from 19 | The first-20 breakpoint gives +91 mana, not +105. |
| Spell/healing power | Compare the affected spell or heal and learned rank; the coefficient and useful outcome differ. |

Questing and group play
This is a group experiment for players who can judge control, incoming damage and the opportunity to help an ally at once. Start with the ordinary Protection toolkit before comparing Holy-heavy choices. When questing alone, the support reserve is useful, but a tank-model damage result cannot predict efficient solo recovery.

Choose useful equipment
A shield plus spell-damage equipment can support the Holy attack package, while health, useful defense and mana remain necessary for the pull. Compare the trade against deeper Protection rather than assuming a higher tank damage score identifies the safer build. The publisher specifically flags this preset as a beta-gear exception.
